Stress and anxiety - 2 sides of the same coin.

What helps us survive is our fight or flight instinct. In the face of a perceived threat our heart rate naturally goes up and various chemical reactions take place which put us on high alert. This is a good thing! Imagine not being worried about crossing the road? You wouldn't last too long, certainly not where I live! Stress is a normal reaction to an actual situation, the alert is based on reality and our predisposition to how we cope with stress is largely down to genetics and how we grew up and if the stress becomes overwhelming it can create problems, not the least being actual physical and medical conditions if nothing is done to alleviate it.

Anxiety is a response to something that hasn't actually happened - and importantly might not actually happen. This is fine where it means you have to check if a car is coming before you cross the road, but becomes a problem if you start to create (fictional) potential outcomes from something that actually hasn't already happened and the anxiety starts to impact your life. These negative automatic thoughts become ingrained in us, sometimes from a very early age.

Hypnotherapy can help you deal with stress and anxiety by re-programming your unconscious thoughts, helping you create more positive and less harmful responses to situations.
